Many elderly are victims of accidents in their own homes, due to hazards that are
easy to overlook, but just as easy to fix. Taking simple, commonsense steps to
correct these problems can prevent injury, and make your elder’s life easier.
 
Before evaluating your elder’s home, make sure that you have their permission and
cooperation. Involve them in the changes you are making by explaining the
reasoning behind them, and being available to answer any questions they may
have.
 
The following pages contain a list of changes that can be made in your elder’s home
to improve their safety and quality of life. While there are many suggestions here,
keep in mind that there may be other necessary improvements that are unique to
your elder.

Learn How to Use the Mobile Alert Device

Tips: Be sure to conduct a Weekly test to your Mobile Alert Device & Neck Pendant or Wrist Button. The battery in the mobile hand held unit is designed to last up to12 hours after charging.

What happens when I press the Neck Pendant or Wrist Button?

1. The Neck Pendant and Wrist Button are programmed to activate the Mobile Alert Device. The Mobile Alert Device will begin to beep, indicating that the signal from the Neck Pendant or Wrist Help Button has been received by the Mobile Alert Device. The Mobile Alert Device will automatically call the Emergency Response Center (this may take 30 to 60 seconds).

2. When Mobile Alert Device beeping stops, an Emergency Operator will ask if you are OK.

3. If you’re able to answer, please provide your status: For Example: “I am OK” or “I need help call 911” or “call one of my contacts”

4. If you do NOT answer the call, the emergency operator will dispatch help through a local 911 public safety center and notify your personal responders.

When the Neck Pendant or Wrist Button is pressed, it transmits a signal to the Mobile Alert Device triggering the Mobile Alert Device to place a call to the response center. YOU MUST HAVE THE MOBILE ALERT DEVICE WITH YOU WHEN USING THE SERVICE OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOME!

Range Testing Overview Help buttons work in conjunction with the Mobile Alert Device in order for those to work, it must be IN RANGE of the MobileAlert Device. IN RANGE is up to *600 feet.

Range Testing Procedure

1. Wear your Wrist or Neck Pendant Button
2. Walk into one of the furthest areas of your home, such as a guest room or bathroom,.
3. Push the Neck Pendant or Wrist Button (until red light illuminates), and wait for the Mobile Alert Device to beep.
4. After the Mobile Alert Device beeps/rings; Respond to Emergency Operator when they call your name, and let them know that you are OK, and “THIS IS A TEST”.

It is imperative that you call the support team to make sure that the system is properly installed, tested and activated.

Important: The Emergency Response Center is ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year via your Mobile Help System.

Helping My Father

I’m finding my father in is bedroom for several weeks with his head in his hands just rocking. He tells me everything is fine, but is afraid to go to sleep. His health is not the best. I tried to take him to the emergency room last night, but he refused. I know his health is not the best, but I would really like to get him to a doctor and find out for myself, but he refuses. How do I get him to understand and get him to a doctor. He’s in is early 60′s and he lost his brother about 2 yrs ago to cancer. I’m at my wits end and want to help him. Help!

Dear Peggy,

Thank you for writing regarding your father. At a time like this, you need to discuss with your father how all of this is affecting you. Open communication will help him understand that you are also involved in this situation. Your father may have many fears and concerns that he finds hard to articulate, both to you and himself. If you truly think that his health is compromised, ask him if he would consider having a doctor visit in his home, or tell him that you will go with him to the doctor’s appointment. Just knowing he isn’t alone and realizing that he has options will help your father.
